Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth) was composed by Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) in 1908-9. It is a cycle of six songs for tenor and alto or baritone soloists and orchestra. Lyrics are poems from Hans Bethge’s Die Chinesische Flöte, German translations of 8th- and 9th-century Chinese poems.
