Getting Started

1. Select the list from ReadingList@HKUL or HKU Moodle:

ReadingList@HKUL: Search the list by course code, course title, list title, course instructors, etc., or
Search reading list by course code

HKU Moodle: Click My courses and select the course. Click the link of ReadingList@HKUL.

2. Click the ellipsis button and select Duplicate list.

3. Amend the list name if necessary. Remember to add the academic year to the list name. Once completed, click Create list.

  1. Click My courses in HKU Moodle and select the course. Click the link of ReadingList@HKUL.

  2. For the first time when a reading list has not been set up, click Create new list to create it.

  3. Assign a title (course name and academic year) to the reading list. Double-check the course code. Once completed, click Next to proceed.

  4. Reading lists are divided into sections, which can represent the weeks of a semester or topics. You can select a weekly template or a template by topics. If you choose a weekly template, sections (i.e. week numbers) will be automatically created in your list. 
    Alternatively, select the blank template, Default, to customize your sections manually.

  1. Click the Ellipsis button and select Edit list.step to edit the reading list
  2. Input or select the Start and End dates, which should match the dates shown in the table below.

  1. The list can also be linked to a course after it has been created, by clicking Link to course at the top of the page.

  2.  Search for your course by course name or course code and select the relevant course from the list.

  3. If you need to change the course associated with the reading list, click the delete button to remove the association.

Creating and editing a section

Resources section has been setup by default. You can create and name new sections to organize your course content, such as weeks of a semester, topics, or course modules.

  1. To add a section, click + Add button at the top left-hand corner. Then, select New section

  2. Enter the title and description of the section. Select the Start and End dates and tick the box for Display section during these days only to set the timeframe for visibility of each section. Additionally, you can arrange the position of the section. Then, click Add to proceed.

Editing a session

You can always edit the section's details by clicking the Ellipsis button → Edit Section.

Reordering the sections

To reorder the sections, collapse the sections by clicking Manage sections. Then, locate the six-dot button next to the section name and drag it upwards or downwards.

If you work with other instructors in the course, you may add your partners as the owner or collaborator to edit the reading list. Both collaborators and owners can edit the list, but only the owner can add other collaborators and owners.

  1. Click on List info.

  3. Click on + Add Collaborators.

  4. Select from course instructors or search for other collaborators by their email address, then click Save.

  1. If you have created a new list by duplicating an existing one, you can hide the old list from students by unpublishing the list.

  2. If you are in process of building the list, you may hide the link from being seen by students in Moodle following the steps below. You can show the reading list again when it is ready for students to view.

    1. Turn on Edit mode in your Moodle course page.

    2. On the ReadingList@HKUL block, click the tool icon and select Hide ReadingList@HKUL block.

    3. Your reading list will be hidden from student. You can select Show ReadingList@HKUL block again when your list is ready.
