How to find a book or an article?

Find@HKUL is the one-stop search for you to discover books, e-books, videos, articles, digital media, and more in HKU Libraries.

Simply visit Find@HKUL, key-in your search keywords, and choose the desired scope to search and discover the millions of resources in the Libraries. Choosing different scopes will lead you to the different collections, e.g.:

  • Books+: Print and e-books, journal and newspaper titles, theses, audio-visual materials and more.
  • Articles+: HKUL subscribed online articles including journal and newspaper articles, conference papers and more.
  • Beyond HKU (HKALL+ Interlibrary Loan): Resources that are not available in HKU libraries but are available from other UGC-funded libraries in Hong Kong or other institutions worldwide.

You may sort and filter your search result on the right panel. You can use the filters to show results from Peer-reviewed journals in Library search.

How to find peer-reviewed articles from databases?

Usually you can limit your search to peer-reviewed journals in most of the databases.
For example, ProQuest Database

  1. Login to ProQuest
  2. Select the databases you would like to use
  3. Check 'Peer reviewed' to limit your search to peer reviewed journals only
  4. Results from peer reviewed journals will be displayed and it will indicate the article is from Scholarly Journals


Using EBSCOhost Business Source Ultimate

  1. Login to Business Source Ultimate <http://find.lib.hku.hk/record=HKU_IZ61527505740003414>
  2. Enter your search term and click search
  3. Check the box 'Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals' to limit the results to peer reviewed journals only
  4. Results from peer reviewed journals will be displayed and it will indicate the article is from Academic Journal

# The loan period of movies and popular films is determined by respective teaching staff and the Media Services Librarian with a length ranging from 3 hours to 7 days.

Looking for in-depth or business specific information?

You may want to use various databases for in-depth or subject specific information, such as financial data, statistics, newspapers, and more.

You can visit the Electronic Resources page for lists of databases by subjects or by types.

Looking for course readings?

Readinglist@HKUL

Your instructor may have worked with the Libraries to set-up a Reading List for the course. With the Reading List you can check and access the course recommended readings easily.

Visit your course Moodle site and click on the "ReadingList@HKUL" widget to take a look at the course readings.

You can also conduct a search for the Reading List directly in the ReadingList@HKUL website. Remember to log-in at the top-right corner for the best experience.

Your instructors may have requested the course recommended readings (print books) be put on reserve. Please visit the Self-Service Collection Room (2/F) in Main Library or Reserve Collection shelves in branch libraries.


Preparing for exam?

Exambase provides fast and easy access to past examination papers of the University of Hong Kong.

You can download past papers and get prepared for your examinations. Simply visit Exambase and search by Paper title or Course Code.


What if the book or article I want is not available?

You can sign-in to request a checked-out item. The online request may lead to a recall of the checked out items or place it on hold for another user.

For books not available in HKU Libraries, Interlibrary Loan service allows you to request books, book chapters, journal articles and other resources beyond the HKU Libraries' collections from local and overseas partner institutes. HKU postgraudate students are eligible for requesting local books, overseas books and article delivery.
