Signature and handstamp of Ernst Rudolf Mayer, opera director of the State Theatre in Luzerne, to title and final leaf. With names of performers added in pencil to cast list, together with a note relative to a performance in April 1929, most probably in Mayer's hand (the earliest performance in Switzerland was in Zurich on January 29, 1929). First Edition The most successful of Weill's collaborations with playwright Bertolt Brecht, Die Dreigroschenoper, adapted from Peter Gay's The Beggar's Opera (London, 1728), was first performed in Berlin on August 31, 1928. It was quite successful on Broadway in the 1950s, its signature tune being the immensely popular Mack the Knife.
