OA Week@HKUL 2020

To celebrate the International Open Access Week 2020, the HKU Libraries would like to take this opportunity to provide you with a quick overview of the initiatives currently taken by the Libraries in support of Open Access (OA).

OA Publishing @ HKUL

Publishing your research in Open Access (OA) enables you to enjoy its potential benefits in increasing the readership of your articles and citations, leading you to greater opportunities for collaborations and therefore enhancing the overall advancement of scholarship.

In order to facilitate Open Access publications at the university, the following publishers offer APC discount for publications by HKU authors:

  • Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS)
  • BioMed Central
  • SpringerOpen
  • Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI)
  • SCOAP3
  • Bentham Science Publishers
  • Policy Press

For more details, please refer to our Libguide.

Open Data @ HKUL

In addition to your publications, the HKU Libraries now provides the data repository for making your research data available in Open Access – DataHub, the HKU institutional data repository.

DataHub, powered by Figshare, fully complies with the FAIR data principles, facilitating sharing and re-use of research data and all scholarly outputs within the university and global research community. Making your data publicly available would further increase the discoverability of your work, credits from dataset citations and opportunities for collaborations with other researchers.

DataHub supports almost every file types and formats, including images, multimedia files, diagrams, datasets, presentations, programme codes, models, etc. Apart from the numeric ‘data’, you are also encouraged to preserve and share a wide variety of your work, such as conference posters, open educational resources, collections, etc.

For more details, visit and explore the repository at https://datahub.hku.hk and related guidelines at https://libguides.lib.hku.hk/researchdata/datahub.
