Style & Writing Guides

While writing your papers or dissertations, please give credit to authors of resources. By properly citing the sources you use in your writings, you are both identifying the resources that you used to complete your work and formally acknowledging the authors or creators of those resources.

In this section, reference tools are available to provide you with examples of citation styles, parenthetical references, annotated bibliographies, manuscript formats, and completed papers.

What is Turnitin

Turnitin
offers Originality Checking which allows checking of students' work for proper citation or potential plagiarism. Once a paper is submitted to Turnitin, it will compare with documents in a continuously updated database consisting of:

  1. Current and archived web pages.
  2. Over 150 million student papers worldwide.
  3. Collections of newspapers, magazines, scholarly journals, e-Books and e-Texts.

To learn more about Turnitin@HKU, please click the guides for faculty members or students.

The HKU Libraries organize library courses throughout the year. Course details, if available, are also posted on the HKUL homepage > News > Library Instruction > Library Courses.
